Sleep Apnea Therapy Challenges and How to Overcome Them Part 3
Don’t let the challenges hold you back from getting sleep apnea therapy!
Whether the problem is that you just can’t seem to get comfortable wearing your mask or you are having trouble adjusting to the forced air, there are many issues that could make you want to stop using your used BIPAP or CPAP machine. However, sleep apnea therapy is incredibly important, and, when left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to a whole host of other health complications. In our last blog, we went over a couple of the most common problems with sleep apnea therapy, as well as how to overcome them. Here are a couple more solutions to common sleep apnea therapy problems:
Problem #5. You feel claustrophobic when you wear your mask.
If your full face mask is making you feel claustrophobic, then it may be wise to switch to a nasal pillow mask or a nasal mask. Wearing the mask during the day without the air pressure on can also help you grow accustomed to wearing it. If you still feel anxious when you wear your mask, talk to your doctor.
Problem #6. Your nose is runny or stuffy after a night of wearing your mask.
The first thing you can do to correct this problem is to utilize a heated humidifier for your CPAP or BIPAP machine. The humidification will make sleep apnea therapy much more comfortable, and it will prevent your therapy from drying out your nose. It’s also a good idea to use a nasal saline spray every night before you go to bed. Finally, you should make sure that your mask fits properly, as leaky masks tend to dry out noses.
