What is Sleep Hygiene?

There are people out there who can sleep any time and any where, but they are few and far between. Many people have trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep, but practicing good sleep hygiene could make a world of difference in your ability to sleep. Before we go into the specific sleep hygiene practices that could help to enhance or detract from your sleep, you need to understand what sleep hygiene is.

What is sleep hygiene?

Believe it or not, sleep hygiene has nothing to do with keeping your sheets clean or changing into a fresh pair of pajamas each night. Sleep hygiene describes that habits, rituals or practices that help you get to sleep at night. Many of us practice sleep hygiene without even realizing it, and we also teach our children sleep hygiene as well. Every night, when your child is getting their pajamas on, taking a bath and listening to their good night story, they are practicing sleep hygiene.
