#6. People who suffer from sleep apnea are more likely to get into car accidents.

People who live with sleep apnea often deal with a constant state of exhaustion, and if you drive when you are drowsy, it is just as dangerous as getting behind the wheel after you’ve had a few cocktails. In fact, if you don’t get any sleep in a full, 24-hour period, it equates to having a blood alcohol level (BAC) of .08, which is the legal limit for a DUI. People who have sleep apnea are five times more likely to be involved in an auto accident than those who don’t.

#7. Sleep apnea sufferers have a higher risk for getting an infectious disease.

CPAP therapy is one of the most effective and common sleep apnea treatment options out there, but it does require some upkeep on your part to keep all of the parts clean and functioning properly. Because of dirty and neglected CPAP equipment, sleep apnea sufferers have an 18 percent higher risk of getting an infectious disease.

The fact is that sleep apnea can be scary, but you aren’t helpless to the horrors of sleep apnea. Contact your doctor to find out if one of our used BIPAP or CPAP machines are right for you, and stay tuned for our next blog to learn the last few scary facts about sleep apnea.
