Nighttime Habits That Wreck Your Sleep Part 2

Don’t let the wrong nighttime habits keep you up at night.

When you don’t get enough sleep it affects you on many different levels, from how focused you are at work to your mood and physical well being. But when you have a sleep disorder, like sleep apnea, or you just have a hard time getting the sleep you need, the wrong nighttime habits can make it virtually impossible to get the rest you need on a nightly basis. When you combine sleeping difficulties with the wrong nighttime habits, it can make it even more difficult. Check out our last blog to learn about the nighttime habits that can wreck your sleep that we’ve already covered, and keep reading to learn about the last few:

#6. Your home is too warm.

When it’s warm, it makes you feel sleepy and comfortable, but surprisingly enough, it can also make it difficult to get to sleep. When it’s overly warm, it can also diminish the quality of sleep you get as well. Excess humidity can have similar effects. If you have an automatic thermostat, try setting it a lower temperature at night than what you would normally keep it at during the day. This will improve your chances of a restful night of sleep.

#7. You stay up late and sleep in late on the weekends.

During the workweek, you know that you have to wake up at a certain time every day, and chances are, you also know what time you have to get to sleep at night to feel your best during the day. However, if you are like most people, during the weekend, your sleep schedule goes out the window. You look forward to staying up late and sleeping in on the weekends, but the bad news is that it can make it difficult for you to get enough sleep when you don’t stick with your sleep schedule consistently.

#8. You take certain medications.

If you take medication regularly and you’re having a hard time getting enough sleep, then your medication may be to blame. Certain medications are loaded with stimulants, even some that you can get over the counter, and they can certainly make it difficult to get the rest that you need. The kinds of medications that can cause sleep difficulties include diuretics, decongestants, cold medicine, antidepressants, steroids and many more. If you can’t sleep and you think your medication might be to blame, talk to your doctor to find out if there’s a suitable alternative that won’t keep you up at night.
