Every Day You Should...

Give your humidifier’s water chamber a thorough rinse. Use mild soap and warm water to do this. Once all the soap is rinsed out, let it air dry away from sunlight.

Regardless of the type of CPAP mask you have, clean that daily as well. Use mild soap and water for this piece, too. Or, you could always use special wipes made for disinfecting CPAP masks. To help maintain your mask and its cushion, avoid using facial oils or moisturizers at night. These products cause the components to deteriorate faster.

Every Week You Should...

Soak your CPAP mask and humidifier’s water chamber in a mixture of water and vinegar. This solution works to disinfect your equipment safely. Rinse them thoroughly before allowing them to air dry away from the sun.

Also, wash any headgear or chin straps you have. Clean them by hand and let them air dry as they’re not washer or dryer safe. You might consider cleaning your machine’s filters, too.

Every Month You Should...

Replace the white filters on your BiPAP machine. If they seem dirty before a month is up, you can switch them out more frequently than that.

Your face mask’s cushion needs to get replaced, too. It gets worn down by the natural oils on your skin, so when you see signs of it breaking down, buy a new one.

Also, inspect some of your BiPAP equipment parts. Make sure your headgear doesn’t have any tears and that there aren’t any leaks in your air hoses.

Every So Often You Should...

Perform other maintenance tasks on your BiPAP equipment. By doing so, you’ll ensure everything remains functional and hygienic. Every six months, get a new water chamber for your humidifier. This is also when you’ll need new grey or black filters. Around every three to six months, you’ll need a new face mask.

As a BiPAP machine user, you know cleaning your equipment is essential. Not sure when to take care of it? Keep this guide handy, so you’ll always remember. A regular cleaning routine ensures your gear stays safe to use!
