Sleep Apnea Therapy Challenges and How to Overcome Them Part 5
When you first start using your CPAP or BIPAP machine, it’s common to have difficulties.
It’s not easy to get used to using your CPAP or BIPAP machine, and many people experience problems when they first start getting sleep apnea therapy. In our last blog, we gave you solutions for a couple of the most common sleep apnea therapy problems. Keep reading to learn about the last two sleep apnea therapy problems that our experts can help you overcome:
Problem #9. Your mouth feels dry when you wake up.
If you primarily breathe through your mouth, sleep apnea therapy can make your mouth incredibly dry. Some sleep apnea masks are more suited to mouth breathers than other masks, so if you have trouble breathing through your nose, try switching to a full face mask or a complete face mask. If you want to keep your mask, you could also try using a chin strap to keep your mouth closed.
Problem #10. You often wake up to find that you took your mask off while sleeping.
If you believe that this issue is due to moving around at night, you may want to consider investing in a full face mask and a hose management system. Full face masks tend to be a bit more difficult to remove than other types of masks, and a hose management system will keep your hose safe when you are moving around. You may also be pulling your mask off due to congestion. If this is the case, purchase a humidifier for your machine or make sure that your mask fits properly.
