Techniques That May Help With Sleep Apnea During Pregnancy
Some women develop mild forms of sleep apnea during pregnancy, and there are many techniques that may help.
If you have had a chance to read our previous blog, then you already know that obstructive sleep apnea can lead to many complications for expectant mothers and their babies. The good news is that there are many treatment options for obstructive sleep apnea. CPAP therapy isn’t always necessary for mild sleep apnea during pregnancy, but if your doctor has suggested it, we offer a variety of used CPAP machines online. If CPAP therapy isn’t the right option for you, there are many techniques that can also help. The following is a list of a few of those techniques:
#1. Don’t sleep on your back.
Sleeping on your back isn’t a good option during pregnancy anyway, and it can make it more difficult to breathe while you sleep. This is because your tongue can block your airway when sleeping on your back. If you have trouble remembering not to sleep on your back, try sewing a tennis ball to the back of your pajamas.
#2. Talk to your doctor about weight management.
Weight loss is one of the most effective ways to treat obstructive sleep apnea. However, losing weight during pregnancy can be complicated, so you should talk to your doctor about developing a weight management plan.
#3. Try adhesive nasal strips.
Adhesive nasal strips can help to open up your nostrils. This will make it easier to breathe while you are at rest.
