What’s Keeping You Up At Night?

#2. Depression
Many people know that insomnia is a symptom of depression, but did you know that it can also cause depression? When you are constantly exhausted, it’s not easy to find the motivation to do anything, and it has a way of making you feel downtrodden all the time. The fact that sleep and depression go hand in hand is no coincidence. The brain utilizes the exact same neurotransmitters for mood and sleep, and it’s not always possible to tell whether insomnia is the result of depression or the cause of it.
#3. Medications
Some over-the-counter and prescription medications can make it difficult for you to get to sleep. But if you need those medications, what can you do? Talk to your doctor! In most cases, there’s another medication that won’t disrupt your sleep. Or your doctor may have advice on when to take your medication so that it doesn’t keep you from getting to sleep.
#4. Sleep Apnea
When people with sleep apnea go to sleep at night, their airways become partially or completely blocked, and their bodies wake them up several times throughout the night so that they can breathe. Millions of Americans suffer from sleep apnea, and the scary part is it is believed that many people who have sleep apnea don’t know it. If it’s left untreated, sleep apnea can have serious consequences, and some of them are even deadly.
